Dr Robert Bailey is a Consultant Physiotherapist. He graduated from Birmingham in 1991. He completed his MSc in Sheffield investigating the use of ultrasound scanning for the spinal muscles. The first ten years of his clinical career were split between the NHS, professional sports teams and private practice.

In 2000 he became an Extended Scope Physiotherapist, running orthopaedic clinics. 6 years later he started his doctoral studies in Preston. In 2014 he completed his Doctoral Thesis “The Role of Lumbo-Pelvic Hip tests in the Examination of Gait.” Consequently he was awarded the title Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Central Lancashire. He is therefore able to use the title of Consultant Physiotherapist and is the only Doctor of Physiotherapy in Cumbria.

2014 was a busy year for him as the Lead Physiotherapist for Boxing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the second time he has led a team at the Commonwealth games in his career. In 2015 he took the long flight to Azerbaijan for the 1st European Games. Most of the time there was spent teaching local medical teams on the management of acute sports injuries.

His clinical specialism now is spinal pain and sports injuries. He divides his time between post-doctoral research, teaching post graduate physiotherapists and advanced clinical practice.
